Person

I am a life long native of the Boston area. I grew up in and currently reside in the neighborhood of Brighton.

I have always had a inquisitive mind, a trait I inherited from both of my parents. I have always been a tinkerer and love nothing more than learning how things work. Though learning how to make things work better is a close second.

Professional

As a developer I mostly worked on web applications. I have experience at all levels of the typical web app stack. Personally I especially enjoy the 'plumber' working at the nitty-gritty level where weird bugs and efficiency tweaks live.

Most of my professional experience is in using Ruby on Rails and JavaScript. I do have a, not so, secret love of functional programming and have played around with languages such as Haskell and Scheme.

I also have a career long interest in systems programming and programming 'close to the metal'. Because of this I also have some experience working with language like C, Rust, and x86 Assembler.

Enthusiast

In addition to computer science I am interested in cognition, psychology, and linguistics. I enjoy studying and learning about artificial and natural intelligence, how we learn and how machines can learning.

Human/machine interaction is an extension of the above mentioned that I find particularly interesting. Technology and our use of it is so deeply ingrained in our modern culture that understanding how we create our technology and how it shapes us is both a fascinating and necessary area of knowledge.

Amateur

Not of all my interests are related to technology; I am also a musician, runner, cyclist, and amateur baker and cook.

As a musician I studied classical piano for a decade. Additionally I have taught myself to play other instruments such as the ukulele, guitar, and tin whistle. I also occasionally try my hand at composition and electronic music production occasionally.
